Traven Apiki
2012-2013 Alaska FFA
State President
My Life Story (The Short Version)-
I was born in Honolulu, HI but have moved around all over the U.S. My dad is in the Coast Guard and so a lot of time I was moving around because of that however now we've gone our separate ways and I now live in Homer, AK with my mom and siblings until this next year. I've been lucky enough to experience the diversity of different states such as North Carolina, Hawaii, Florida, and even here in Alaska.
My FFA Story-
One day I was walking down the hallway when I was dragged into a meeting by a friend. Students were meeting around a table at lunch and everything seemed so formal and definitely NOT for me! I was a little scared but after I saw the love and commitment that most people had for this program, my interest peeked. This was the start of my FFA career, from there I went from starting as the chapter treasurer, to becoming the chapter president and now I have the honor of being the state president for the Alaska FFA State Association. Over this past year I have been able to travel around to various chapters across the state, work with a ton of different members by doing multiple workshops and having a blast with so many different members. This past year I was able to attend SPC (State Presidents Conference) and learn all about the National Delegate process as well as talk with the senators and representative of Alaska about the future of agricultural and natural resource education. This past year was also my first year at nationals where I met a ton of people and participated as a National Delegate. Since then I have been able to help out at the Hawaii State FFA Convention and get to know a lot of Hawaii members.
My Intended Future Path-
Next year I want to stay highly involved with the Hawaii FFA Association since I plan on attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo and double majoring in marine science as well as Hawaiian studies. I have met with the local chapter near Hilo, HI, the Pahoa FFA Chapter and will do whatever I can to help them stay successful as well as continue to help the state association any way I can.
